Living in Dongara and Port Denison
Twin coastal towns 3.5 hours north of Perth, with beaches, fishing, the marina and everything you need day to day.
Dongara and Port Denison are twin coastal towns at the mouth of the Irwin River, about 3.5 hours north of Perth. They’re small enough to feel relaxed and big enough to have what you need day to day. Here’s what life looks like for people who move here.
The towns
Dongara is the older of the two, and its main street, Moreton Terrace, is lined with huge Moreton Bay fig trees. Port Denison sits on the coast next door and is home to the marina and the local fishing fleet. Together they have:
- Shops and supermarkets
- Cafes and restaurants
- A hospital
- Schools
- A golf course
- A drive-in movie theatre
- The Port Denison Marina
Geraldton, the Mid West’s regional city, is 45 minutes north, with its airport, larger shopping centres and services.
The coast
This is the big drawcard. Long beaches, clear water and a coastline that’s never crowded. Fishing is part of everyday life, and the area is known for its western rock lobster (crayfish) industry. With a boat you can head out to the Abrolhos Islands, 43 nautical miles offshore, which are famous for fishing, diving and snorkelling.
The climate
Dongara has a Mediterranean climate: warm, dry summers and mild winters. It’s well suited to an outdoor lifestyle all year round.
Space to spread out
Many people move to the Mid West coast for room to breathe. At Hidden Valley, every lot is around 2.5 acres, 900m from the beach, with only a flora and fauna reserve between you and the ocean. There’s room for a home, a big shed, the boat and the caravan.
The lots come with 3-phase power, town water, high-speed NBN, a $25,000 fence and gate package and $10,000 towards clearing your building envelope. See the details on the Inclusions page.
