Building a shed first: the shed-first strategy
Lots of acreage owners start with a big shed. Here's why, and what to think about.
On acreage, it’s common to build the shed first. Here’s why it makes sense for many owners.
Why shed first
- Secure storage for tools, the boat and materials
- A workshop powered by 3-phase power
- A base while you plan and build the house
Design it for the future
Position the shed so it works with the future house, driveway and outdoor areas. Think about access for trailers and caravans.
Approvals
Sheds need approval like any building. Your plans need to meet WA building regulations and get Shire of Irwin approval. Ask the Shire about any rules on living in a shed before a house is built.
No time limit
Hidden Valley has no time limit to build, so you can take the staged approach at your own pace.
